Own Your Sleep Today!

Apr 8, 2022 | Self-development, Self-Help, Sleep

When you’re having a rough week or having troubles at home, work, or school, getting a good night’s sleep seems far away. Though there are times that skipping on slumber seems the only option, consistent sleep has its benefits, and there are ways you can build a lifestyle for a more peaceful sleep.

Sleep is your Natural Healer

Sleep is one of man’s best healers if you don’t know it yet. When you are deficient in sleep, there is a high chance of developing chronic health problems like heart and kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and obesity

This is why nurturing a healthy sleep will decrease your chances of developing cardiovascular disorders and will improve your creativity and problem solving, lower the likelihood of mental disorders, and may even increase life expectancy!

Nurture these Habits for a Better Sleep

STICK TO A SLEEP SCHEDULE

Sleep and wake at the same time every day! Consistency is the key to a night of healthier sleep.

CREATE A RELAXING ROUTINE

Soothe your senses every night! Read a short story. Tune up some soft instrumental music. Meditate. Maybe even journal the events of the day!

SAY “NO” TO UNHEALTHY LAST-MINUTE BITES

Nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, sweets, and junk food will only bring you discomfort. Drink up on warm milk instead! Research even suggests having fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet to promote sleep!

BUILD A PEACEFUL SLEEPING SPACE

Who doesn’t love a clean and peaceful bedroom? Start getting rid of your bad sleeping habits! Maybe close your windows, dim the lights, and fill the room with a pleasant aroma!

GET YOUR BODY MOVING

Science has backed physical activity to reduce insomnia symptoms and improve sleep quality. Now put on your outdoor shoes, and get outside! Does the storm stomp you? Do some yoga instead!

UNPLUG FROM YOUR SCREEN

Blue light alters our body’s sleep-wake cycle. So keep your phone and laptop away 1-2 hours before you sleep! Your social media stories and Netflix shows can wait the next day.

SET ASIDE YOUR WORRIES FOR THE NIGHT

Though easier said than done, managing your concerns before hitting the sack is achievable! Breathing practices do wonders as well! Begin with basics: stress management, task delegation, and to-do lists.

Have a Good Night Tonight

Life throws on us problems that make it hard to cozy up on our beds. And with these habits in mind and a little consistency, you might find yourself dozing off before you start thinking of — zzzz!
